\fter meeting the Transport Minister the Route One Nessure group is cautiously optimistic that progress night have been made. Lucia Cockcroft reports.
TAN ROBINSON, the highrofile haulier behind the Route )ne pressure group, is "cautiously ptimistic" after meeting 'ransport Minister Stephen LadyIan last Tuesday (25 October). Robinson and four other haulirs Jim Dodd, Paul Frampton, rthur Shirley and Gerry Jones let the minister to discuss setting p a regular dialogue between Route One members and the government.
Robinson, whose Staffordbased company, Stan Robinson, runs 175 trucks, says the meeting was -positive and constructive", although Ladyman fell short of agreeing to regular discussions.
"We were pleased with how it went," he adds. "The minister seemed interested and receptive to our proposals. We talked about all sorts of issues, such as fuel prices, training and the Working Time Directive."
Gerry Jones, MD of Cwmcarnbased Gerry Jones Transport, was also upbeat about the meeting: "The minister seemed keen to understand the needs and concerns of the grass-roots of the industry."
