proud to present his light van awards from this year's Motor Show.
The first award goes to the most practical van at the show from the Royal Grammar School, Worcester. Based on a standard Mini's components, their "mobile sports bag" won the £1,000 first prize in the BP build-a-car competition. It has special compartments for javelins, and lots of room inside for sports bags and the like. Although the van has no side doors, it is designed for summer use only, and the seats looked more comfortable than those in many of the production vans on display.
The best-looking van award must go to the reproduction 1930 WI' type MG High Speed Van. This 847cc van is made from the original drawings of the only MG van ever made. Austin Rover has since manufactured MG Metro-based oneoff vans, but this is the prettiest of the two by far.
Oldest liveried van award goes to the original Austin Seven Royal Mail Letter's van on the Besco stand_ With only a 600kg payload, it didn't carry many letters.
Craftiest trick award goes to Ford which blanked out part of the window space on the P100 King Cab to give less than 95cm2 unobscured vision, and hence avoid the need to charge car tax on the pickup.
