Evidence was given by vehicle examiner Alan Fie!den that he had imposed a number of prohibition notices on the company's vehicles in a fleet check prompted by a trailer having failed its annual test. No inspection records were available for the trailers.
Asked about drivers' hours convictions, managing director George Hunter said that the drivers had exceeded the hours limits to get the work done. They had not been paid for working excessive hours. Following the convictions, the drivers had been warned and he had issued fresh instructions.
Cutting the licence, the DLA said there had clearly been an unsatisfactory situation which he felt had principally been caused by a lack of supervision.
