• This year's Motor Show has been hailed as success by bus and coach manufacturers.
In the order-book league Optare came first with more than 50 new vehicles requested. It says: "We received substantial enquiries on our mini, midi and maxi range and we expected even more operators to order new vehicles from us."
Hestair Duple says it sold 16 body on chassis vehicles and 14,425 integrals. Plaxton took two orders for 3500 executivespec vehicles from Stonehouse and six orders from Go Whittle for six Paramount 3200 bodies on Dennis Javelin 12m chassis.
Reeve Burgess, the minibus building division of Plaxton, received a request for 14 Beaver 709 vehicles from Transit Holdings chairman Harry Blur dred for his Devon General operation.
Walter Alexander says it took a 2500,000 order from Luton anbd District for 12 Ak xander R-Type bus bodies wi Leyland Olypian chassis.
Even manufacturers which did not take any orders durirn the show have called the eve] a success. Renault Trucks, which exhibited for the first time at the show, says: "Dur. ing the trade days we arrange a considerable number of trial for operators with the S75 an the PR100."
Leyland Bus also says it Aw pleased with both the turnout and the customer contact dur ing the show.
