II Truck rental and contracthire company Intertrail Rentals has announced plans to double its fleet to 1,400 vehicles, just a year after being taken over by French bank subsidiary Soc Gen Lease.

Intertrail of Ewell, Surrey has appointed new managers, intends to take on 15 extra staff, and plans to double its business during 1980. It has just bought 100 trucks from Mercedes-Benz, Scania, Renault and Volvo in orders worth a total of £3.5 million.

Intertrail was formed four years ago, but was taken over by the subsidiary of French bank Societe Generale only last year. It has depots in Widnes, Stoke, Halesowen, Avonmouth and London.

Tim Campbell has been promoted to rental and truck hire director, and Richard Cage is new technical operations manager. They report to John Goodreid, who joined the company in early summer.

Intertrail, which claims to have the sixth largest tractive unit fleet in the UK, says it is planning to acquire other rental fimis.

Gabriel Collett joins as new depot manager at Halesowen. Also new to the company is engineer Ray Critchlow. Intertrail is one of several contracthire and rental truck firms owned or backed by banks or financial institutions.
