SIR JAMES DUNCAN, chairman of Transport Development Group, has become president of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers. Lord Stokes, the outgoing IRTE president, who passed the president's badge of office to Sir James Duncan at the institute's recent agm said: "The IRTE is in good heart", and he referred specifically to the current net assets of more than £270,000 and a membership of 14,000. Doug Carter, fleet engineer of UB Foods, has now taken over as charman of the IRTE council, while the office of vice president has moved from Walter Batstone to Mike Kinshott.
The IRTE's 1984 award winners were announced at the agm: Bob Papps of South Africa won the Mackenzie Junner Technical Award for his contribution on spray suppression; Sir Peter Thompson won the Mackenzie Junner Trophy for his paper on "Industrial Partnership"; and Ron Cater and Garry Turvey received National Diplomas for the papers they presented at the IRTE conference earlier this year.
