A THREE YEAR contract worth nearly Elm a year for the nation wide distribution of spare parts for Volkswagen and Audi cars was announced by National Carriers Ltd on Tuesday. It is being operated by the company's Eastern Region.
NCL has been working for Volkswagen (Great Britain) Ltd for five years but the new contract is far wider in scope than anything undertaken previously. Deliveries are being made from a parts centre at Milton Keynes to warehouses at Edinburgh, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Kendal and Plymouth. From those places 352 dealers are served.
The contract calls for five deliveries a fortnight to each dealer a 24 hour load time, loading at about 4.30 pm minimum handling and no Saturday work.
National Carriers has invested £450,000 in vehicles and equipment to fulfill the contract. Forty-six prime movers, six 30ft Tautliners and eight 20ft containers are based on Milton Keynes.
