IN AN unprecedented step ti week, British Road Federati chairman Tony de Boer a British Rail chairman Sir Pei Parker have published a let calling for more investment transport.
In a letter to the Financ Times, they refer to Trance, Minister William Rodge statement that transp( might not always be able command the same proporti of national investment as does at present.
They accept the "econon realism" which prompted Rodgers remarks, but ac "There is equally a wi agreement throughout the dustry that transport is an sential part of the weal creating process."
They continue: "Past pub expenditure cuts have grea aggravated both forward ir estment programmes and ci rent spending, and we woi view with deepest concern a further deterioration in t nation's transport."
Justifying their jo approach, the chairmen s; "We are not simply concerr with our comparative clai on resources within the dustry, but with decisions investment strategy to prov the right framework for ea transport mode to make t most of what it can offer."
