Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

REPRESENTATIVES of 76 objectors throughout Scotland strongly 'criticized the Scottish Bus Group's application, to the Scottish Traffic Commissioners in Edinburgh last week, to increase fares. Scottish Bus said costs had risen by more than £. lm in a year for reasons including a wages award and increased fuel costs. It feared its net income would drop by almost £573,000 this year if present fares continued.

The Commissioners are to make their decision known shortly.

The applications were tabled by: Scottish Omnibuses Ltd., Edinburgh; W. Alexander and Sons (Fife) Ltd., Kirkcaldy; W. Alexander and Sons (Midland) Ltd., Falkirk; Western SMT Co. Ltd., Kilmarnock; Central SMT Co. Ltd., Motherwell; and W. Alexander and Sons (Northern) Ltd., Aberdeen.

In a separate application by Highland Omnibuses Ltd. at Inverness on October 27, the decision was also reserved.

• AT THE anniversary luncheon of the Institute of Transport in London on November 7 (at the Connaught Rooms) the President of the Board of Trade, Mr. Anthony Crosland, will be the chief speaker.
