Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A public meeting under the auspices of the Roadways Federation, Ltd.; 39, Victoria Street, London, S.W.1, will be held on November 9th, at 8 p.m., at Cannon Street Hotel, London, E.C.4. All operators, booking agents and members of the public interested, financially or otherwise, in travel by road are invited to attend, and it is hoped that the chair will be taken by a prominent public man. The object is to review the effects of the Road Traffic Act and to discuss the aims and scope of the federation, particularly with a view to closer co-operation between all members of the industry.

Junkers Oil Engines on Rail Coaches.

According to reports in the French Press, there will soon be 'a regular service of rail coaches with Jankers oil engines on the Chemin de Per du Midi. The engineer of this, railway recently stated that the French Southern Railway has made a trial fill1 of-700biloms. with a rail coach made of duralumin.. This has a Peugeot 75 'b.p. engine built under Junkers licence. The coach was a 61-seater with a laden weight of 51 tons, and over. a course' between Bordeaux and Tabes, with two stops, -the fuel consuMption was. 15 litres per 100 Idioms., which means that a passenger can be carried 100 kilorns. on a quarter of a litre of the cheapest fuel.

A Thornycroft Dividend.

The accounts of John 1. Thornycroft ithd Co., Ltd., have been made un for the year ended July 31st last, and the directors propose to pay a dividend of 3 Per cent. on the preference shares, making 6 per cent. for the year, and to carry forward £52,108. We understand that no dividends are to be declared on the Preferred ordinary shares or on the ordinary shares.

Poppy Mascots for Radiators.

Nearly 300 men, badly disabled in the Great War, have been working for a year making Haig poppies for Remembrance Day, November 11th. Amongst the new examples is a specialty prepared waterproofed poppy mascot with a clip for fixing to the radiator. It is hoped that every motor vehicle will, for a week prior to Remembrance Day, display one of these emblems. They cost 2s. 6d., or 2s. 9d. by post. Orders for these special poppies should be sent to Earl Haig's British Legion Appeal Poppy Day (1931) Headquarters, 18, South Street, Park Lane, London, W.1. Supplies can also be had on sale or return for motor showrooms and garages, for the benefit of the fund.

Transporting Boilers for Russia.

An interesting transport order recently secured by M.R.S., Ltd., is to carry 70 Lancashire boilers, each s weighing 20 tons, to Liverpool for shipment to Russia. These will be sent at the rate . of ,sril a week. More Thornycroft Buses for Cairo.

John 1. Thornycroft and Co., Ltd., has received an order for 41 more buses for the Egyptian General Omnibus Co., S.A., Cairo. It will be recalled that 108 Thornycroft LC-type, normal-control, left-hand-drive, 'four-cylinder 27seaters were ordered at the end of last year, a description of them appearing in our issue dated December 16th, 1930. It is understood that the new vehicles are to have Ransomes bodies.

Duple-bodied Buses for Luton. Duple Bodies and Motors, Ltd., Edgware Road, The Hyde, London, N.W.9, has received a contract from Luton Corporation to supply four 52-seater double-deck bus bodies and five 32seater single-deck bodies, which, we understand, are to have 'Daimler chassis.
