TRAFFIC COMMISSIONER Christopher Heaps left his post this week, cla iming that changes to staffing levels have made his position untenable.
Heaps retired from his post of TC for the South-Eastern and Metropolitan traffic area on Tuesday (30 April); he wants the industry to be aware of the reasons for his early departure.
"I have concerns about Vosa's plans to transfer support staff from the local TCs' offices to a central office in I ,eeds," he explains.
Speaking to CM. Heaps explains that as a TC he has to be satisfied that all the information available to him shows an operator is fit to hold an 0-licence. "But if I have no files and no staff locally. I do not believe will be in a position to he satisfied," he says. "All I will be able to see is the information which is sent tome by the central office. I will not know what I have not seen."' A Vosa spokesman says: "We note that Mr Heaps is not representing the Traffic Commissioners' view and Vosa is working closely with TCs on the transition to a centralised location for processing licence applications.
"Where issues arise in respect to licence applications, they will continue to be forwarded to the Traffic Commissioners for review as has always been the ease."
