FIAT DUCATO
Fiat was displaying a novel version of its Ducato Flexiloader with ground-level loading platform, which also forms the rear floor. MERCEDES-BENZ AXOR POWERSHIFT Logistics companies are increasingly relying on agency drivers and this has encouraged the advance of automated transmissions. The Axor was launched in 2002 with an emphasis on a manual box and ease of use, but it has followed the trend with an optional 12-speed automated Powershift. The transmission also boasts Ecoroll, kickdown and manual/auto control, but the power option favoured for hill climbing in the Actros is left out. With no synchromesh, gear changing has also been quickened; M-B claims a 1.5% fuel saving over a manual box.
AVIA TRUCKS
Avia Trucks, backed by new Indian owner AshokLeyland, launched its 12tonne D120 rigid and tractor at the show. Powered by the Cummins Euro-4 ISB SCR rated at 160 or 185hp, it has a six-speed box with kerb weights starting at 3,527kg. The tractor gets the same 4.5-litre engine with 185hp and 700Nm on tap, and weighs in at 3 ,660kg.
