Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A national campaign to report truck and bus operators with smokey vehicles was launched this week by the National Society for Clean Air and Green Magazine.

They have established a 'smoke hotline' on (0836) 405100, and want members of the public to call in with details of smokey vehicles. Allegations will then be passed on to the relevant authorities.

Green Magazine editor Vic Allen says: "Diesel fumes are not only unpleasant and smelly; they can cause asthma, bronchitis and are known to cause cancer."

A further attack on the environmental impact of trucks came this week from the Council for the Protection of Rural England which has called on Environment Secretary Christopher Patten to include financial curbs on commercial vehicle users in his forthcoming White Paper.
