Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• With the imminent launch of a Ford P100 chassis-cab, Tipmaster has led the field with a tipper body (CM 5-11 April), and we have now driven a P100 fitted with the top-ofthe-range Hi-Spec version.

At £1,968 (ex-VAT), the HiSpec comes with detachable dropsides featuring pullover fasteners; a top and bottomhung detachable tailboard, ropehooks and a detachable ladder rack. Tipmaster's Standard and Economy bodies come at £1,618.75 and £1,493.75 (ex-VAT) respectively.

With an all-up kerbweight of 1,440kg, the Tipmaster-bodied P100 turbo-diesel offers a payload of 800kg including a driver and passenger. The Standard tipping body weighs 76kg less.

Tipmaster's body is shorter and shallower than the standard P100 pickup loadbed but, freed from the restriction of the cab width, it is also a useful 280mm wider.

In use the tipper body matches its well-finished appearance. Even when empty it rattles only over the worst bumps; and even when full it lifts easily via an electrohydraulic system controlled by a three-position dashboard switch. Our test load of earth did tend to collect round the rear stanchions, but this is to be expected of any tipper body with detachable dropsides.

P100 chassis-cabs are expected to reach the dealers within a few weeks; the tipper versions are likely to appeal primarily to jobbing builders, landscape gardeners and other tradesmen who currently have to choose betwen larger panel
