• Furrows of Oswestry, the Ford car arm of the Telford-hased Iveco Ford dealer, has spent £70,000 on a new commercial vehicle workshop. The two-bay workshop at Furrows' Salop Road. Oswestry depot has been built as a "speculative. venture" hut it has already helped win maintenance con tracts with local operators. Oswestry dealer principal Aubrey Kirkham, says: "We felt there was a need for commercial vehicle servicing in North Shropshire and it was a service that we could offer."

Market research showed that there are 25 fleets of trucks in the area. Three of them, totalling 25 vehicles, signed maintenance deals even before the workshop opened. Two fitters are employed full time and others will be brought in from other parts of the organisation when demand rises. Opening times are 08.0021.00hrs Monday to Friday, and 08.00-13.00firs on Saturdays, hut work can he carried out at any time when required.

Furrows has also entered the contract hire business with a dozen vehicles on maintenanceinclusive contracts in its fleet. Further developments will depend on customer demand.
