Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• As predicted in Commercial Motor last week AWD has engineered its TL all-steel cab onto the 32.5 tonne 8x6 Multidrive articulated truck chassis and a new 6x4 rigid tipper chassis.

It is mounted about 25mm higher than before, and improved specification includes a hydraulic tilt mechanism, highlevel air-intake stack and heavy-duty rubber floor covering.

Both vehicles are powered by the Cummins 6CTAA sixcylinder, 8.3-litre, air-to-air charge-cooled engine driving through a Lipe twin-plate clutch to an Eaton 6109 ninespeed synchromesh rangecharge gearbox.

The permanently coupled Multidrive combination employs . a permanently engaged, constant velocity, drive shaft between the three 11.5-tonne Rockwell drive axles, incorporating cross-axle differentials and inter-axle differentials on the rear axle of the tractive unit and the leading axle of the steered trailer bogie.

The 8x 6 MTC 33-27 offers a payload of 21 tonnes, about 1.5 tonnes more than a conventional rigid eight-legger.

At 24.39 tonnes, improvements to the 6x4 chassis include Hendrickson Norde rubber suspension at the rear and a body/payload allowance of up to 18.4 tonnes.
