A FLEET of goods vehicles operated by a Bolton asphalt company was found to be in a neglected condition when inspected by a DoE vehicle examiner, the North Western Licensing Authority, Mr C. R. Hodgeson, was told at a Section 69 inquiry in Manchester last week.
The examiner, Mr R. Holt, said that vehicles operated by Pure Asphalt Co Ltd were inspected on two occasions in February at the company's depot. They were found to be in a neglected condition, and attracted a total of two delayed and five immediate prohibition notices. Mr Holt added that proper maintenance records were not being kept.
In defence, Mr J. Oddy, director, said that he could not explain the poor condition of the vehicles in the past. He stated that the firm had now improved its vehicle maintenance arrangements and method.
Mr Hodgeson decided to curtail the 0 licence — originally authorizing nine vehicles and four trailers — by suspending two vehicles for a month and by removing the margin of one vehicle and two trailers which had not been taken up,
