NO ACTION was taken against a Yorkshire taxi and minibus firm when it appeared at a disciplinary hearing in Leeds on Friday. The firm, Magnet Taxis, of Regent Street, Barnsley, had been called before the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners to consider whether cause had been given to revoke or suspend some or all of the firm's psv licences.

The court heard that there had been some doubt in the past as to whether the two minibuses operated by the Firm had been receiving sufficient maintenance attention.

Giving evidence for the DoE, Mr A. Fielding, vehicle examiner, told the Commissioners that in February he visited Magnet Taxis and inspected the two minicoaches in question. Defects were discovered and a number of defect notices issued, the Commissioners were told. While the firm relied mainly on an outside garage for maintenance work, this was apparently carried out on a "when necessary" basis.

One of the two partners of Magnet Taxis, Mr N. Rawson, said in defence that in the past his firm had not been regular minibus operators. However, it was now intended to operate the minibuses regularly and proper arrangements had been made with the garage to ensure they both received planned maintenance inspections.

Mr Rawson added that the firm had also taken on a full-time mechanic to make sure that day to day servicing of the vehicles was not neglected.
