THE DoE's 1973 annual report on the roads programme in England has now been published.
The report shows that expenditure during the financial year 1972-73 on the construction, improvements and maintenance of roads was £629m. Forty-three miles of new motorway were opened and work was begun on a further 76 miles, The total motorway mileage in Great Britain at the end of the year was 1,112 miles, in England 934,6 miles, Roads in England 1972-73.
