ACCORDING to figures issued last week by the Board of Trade, 26,910 commercial vehicles (26,117 goods and 793 public service vehicles) were built in March. These figures show a substantial reduction on those of a year ago, when 34,793 vehicles (33,798 lorries and 995 buses) were made.
Output in the first quarter of this year totalled 66,473 vehicles (64,130. lorries and 2,343 buses), compared with 94,362 (91,526 lorries and 2,836 buses)
in the first quarter of 1956. • In March 10,698 vehicles (10,232 lorries and 466 buses) were exported, compared with 12,087 (11,686 lorries and 401 buses) a year earlier. Exports in the first quarter stood at 29,216 vehicles (27,613 lorries and 1,603 buses). against 35,900 (34,936 lorries and 964 buses) in the similar period of 1956.
