NO confirmation that insurance premiums would rise in the near future could be gained by The Commercial Motor on Tuesday, although it would seem likely that rates will increase by next year. Chairmen of insurance companies have spoken of the unprofitability of vehicle insurance, and fuel rationing last year probably staved off an advance in premiums.
The possibility of the early abandonment of petrol rationing and last week's announcement of the size of this country's vehicle population (page 409) gave rise to rumours that dearer insurance was imminent.
