THE appeal of Bouts-Tillotson Transport, Ltd., against the refusal of the East Midland Licensing Authority to grant a .licence for threo discretionary-tonnage vehicles in possession, was opened in London, on Tuesday last.
Mr. W. S. Morrison, K.C., M.P., and Mr. G. Thesiger appeared for the appellant aud Mr. Pr, Tylor for the respondents, Donaldson Wright and Co., Ltd., and others. Mr. B. de H. Pereira, for the London, Midland and Scottish and London and North Eastern Railway companieS, stated that they did not wish to be represented ha the appeal.
Opening the case for the appellant, Mr. Morrison stated that the vehicles apolied for were to be used for collection and delivery in connection with the concern's trunk services, and the applications were made for the vehicles at the bases at which they were stationed at the time of the application. He submitted that the hearing of the application was :devoted more to the examination of the financial position of the company, and its previous conduct as a general haulier, than to an investigation of the needs of the district.
The hearing was continued on Wednesday and Thursday.
