Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

joanna.bourke@rbi.co.uk WEST MIDLANDS-based Bil Logistics has joined Fortec to replace insolvent irm DY Pallets Logistics, covering all deliveries in Dudley and parts of Birmingham for the pallet network.

Wilf Jones, MD of Bil Logistics, tells CM: “We do a lot of specialist work with a bluechip client base in the aerospace, automotive and pharmaceutical industries. However, not all of these irms always have timecritical freight, so we wanted to be able to offer them another more competitive service for their general cargo items. We can achieve this via Fortec.” He says he was attracted to the network because it is owned by Geodis, so he can now also offer clients a more competitive rate for international deliveries.

The irm is handling circa 70 pallets daily with Fortec, but expects this to rise to 120 pallets every night over the next few months.

Jones adds: “Because of our venture with Fortec, we have been able to open up new business and have recently acquired new contracts with the St Ives Print Corporation and Fujitsu.” The Dudley patch was previously managed by DY Pallets Logistics, which left the network in September 2010 for Palletways, and later went on to enter liquidation (CM 6 January). Other Fortec members stepped in to distribute goods in the region until now.

● Palletways Group almost doubled operating proit in the 12 months to 31 May 2010, with the irm’s European investments paying off.

The pallet network posted a £2.3m increase in operating proits to £4.7m, while revenue also rose 5.6% to £147m during the year ended 31 May 2010.

Jenny Cutler, Palletways group inance accountant, tells CM: “This operating proit growth is on the back of our investments into the European network and pan-European operations.” UK revenue did dip slightly to £111.8m from £113m, however the company blames this on the economy. UK operating proit did rise by £1.5m to £7.47m.
