While many dealers report used stock shortages, others say they have plenty of vehicles on tap. “Our site at Middleton is full of used trucks at present, so much so that we’re having to expand our activities into a site at Trafford Park,” says Stuart Wolstenholme, used sales manager at the Middleton, Manchester, branch of Scania dealership West Pennine Trucks.
Selling 2,000 trucks annually, Ryder’s used vehicle operation has trucks arriving regularly for disposal – and at present they are all Euro-3 – while Hanbury Riverside sources many of its vehicles from its own 500-strong contract hire fleet.
Certainly, a flip through the classified pages of CM reveals there is no lack of choice, even if volumes might, at times, be scarce.
A recent issue featured everything from the usual crop of 7.5-tonne curtainsiders and 420hp-or-thereabouts 6x2 tractor units to 6x4 and 8x4 mixer chassis, along with refuse collection vehicles and trailers.
And that’s before we start looking at what might be coming under the hammer at the auctions.
