Iveco's Continental breakdown service is slammed after a French garage tries to charge £900 to repair an injector pipe. Guy Sheppard reports.

THE BOSS OF a UK removals company has condemned Iveco's Continental breakdown assistance service as "a rip-off" after being told it would cost £900 to repair an injector pipe.

Edward Preyzner, managing director of New Concept International in Wigan, says the call-out in France was made less than 24 hours after the same repair had been completed through Iveco Assistance Non-stop in Spain.

"Of course we expect to pay for it when something goes wrong but we don't expect someone to be holding a musket to your head," he says.

Preyzner alleges that this is the latest in a series of incidents in which Iveco-approved garages in France have charged his company exorbitant prices for making emergency repairs.

His local dealer, Walton Summit Truck Centre in Preston, says Iveco has since agreed to put the second repair through under warranty. provided it can be shown that it was for the same fault.

But Preyzner says the French garage tried to charge him ahnost double the amount he paid in Spain: "The assistance package is so very expensive and so lacking in expertise and professionalism." John Procter. spokesman for Iveco in the UK, says: "It is regrettable that this has happened but the local dealer is clearly trying to get to the bottom of it. Most of our customers who use this service are very satisfied with the results."
