• A revolutionary emergency fire tender has been developed by Cleveland County Council in collaboration with Cleveland County Fire Service, Tees-side Polytechnic and the Manpower Services Commission.
The vehicle is designed to meet emergency services' need to transport a variety of special equipment to the heart of an accident or fire.
Its system of storage pods, mounted on sliding, hydraulically-operated runners, gives more usable storage space than existing tenders in a package that is 25% smaller than any vehicle currently available. The CAD/CAMdesigned tender is compatible with most popular chassis.
In accordance with EEC regulations and UK legislation, the county council, which holds the patents and copyright of the design, is to invite bids from manufacturers throughout Europe to buy the right to produce the vehicle under licence.
The tender is now under evaluation service with the Cleveland Fire Brigade using a vee-eight Perkins diesel engine and manual transmission on a 1972 Dennis chassis.
