Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A N electric starter has always been a feature of Chaseside equipment powered by an oil engine, but it has not been available with the petrol or paraffin power units. From now on, however, the whole range of Chaseside shovels, excavators, diggers, cranes and buffer tractors, will be fitted with electric starters.

Another improvement, which does not apply to the buffer tractors, lies in the fitting of the control levers for the scoop mechanism inside the cab, instead of outside, as hitherto.

These modifications to a range of equipment which has fully proved itself over ra• number of years, will tend to improve their work capacity. The electric starter, for instance, will make for easier and quicker starting from cold, which means that the machines will be on the job quicker.

The starter should also make for considerable economies, as the operative will not hesitate to switch off his engine when his machine may have to be inactive for short periods.

The 12-volt Lucas starter-motor is mounted to the near side of the engine, whilst the dynamo, which is driven by the fan belt, is mounted on the off side.

The new position of the scoop controls makes for greater safety. One lever is placed in the left-hand corner

of the cab and the other in the righthand corner, and instead of being arranged horizontally they are now vertical.

After use the levers return to a permanent and positive stop position. The design of the knock-off mechanism has also been improved.

The capacity of the petrol or paraffin engine fitted to Chaseside equipment is 4.38 litres, and that of the oil engine 4.73 litres. With the exception of the dumper, which has four forward speeds, all other machines have three forward speeds. The maker • is the Chaseside Engineering Co., Ltd., Station Works, Hertford.
