AiSOLUTION of what he called the farmer's bane—the rapid wastage of tractor tyres—was announced by Mr. L. W. R. Morley, managing director of North Road Tyresoles (Services), Ltd,, at Grantham, on Tuesday. An.invention o'f an American farmer has made possible the relugging of large tyres for tractors and giant earth-moving equipment.
The new process, known as " VacuLug," enables new lugs to be vulcanized on worn tyres so that they do not shed. Normally these lugs are said to disappear in less than 4,000 miles, or c2 where road work is involved, in less than 500 miles. Casings and basic rubber, however, remain sound.
Because of the dollar saving possible with the new system of retreading, the Board of Trade has given the project full support and leased a former Kendall factory at Grantham to Mr. Morley. The saving in imports of American tyres and carbon black should be substantial and progressive.
