III HANSON CEMENT has removed its North East slag cement site in Teesport. Middlesbrough, from its licence.

The company has also been ranted authorisation to run 30 vehicles and 40 trailers from the Corus steel works in Brigg Road, Scunthorpe.

Hanson says that over the past year and a half it has carried out a programme of plant and fleet reductions, which included a 35% cut in the size of its bulk cement fleet. The company adds that during this time it has been working to keep as many of its franchised hauliers as possible in order to retain flexibility for when the market improves Hanson has brought two previously outsourced transport operations back in-house: bulk cement dis tribution for its Civil and Marine Slag Cement business from haulier Clugton Group; and brick distribution from Wincanton.

It says it is hoping to make extra savings through the integration of its Civil and Marine and Castle Cement businesses under the Hanson Cement banner.
