TRANSPORTING OFFICE furniture in a vehicle without an 0-licence has cost an Essex company £700 in fines and costs.
Ascension Commercial Services, of Lionel Road, Canvey Island, pleaded guilty before the Barking magistrates. In mitigation it was claimed that the offence had arisen through a misunderstanding of the regulations. Anthony Ostrin, prosecuting for VOSA, told the court that a Mercedes two-axle rigid carrying office furniture was stopped in a roadside check. No
0-licence disc was being displayed and inquiries revealed that Ascension Commercial Services does not hold an 0-licence.
In a letter to the court, solicitors for the company said it worked in conjunction with another company with the same board of directors and that company had an 0-licence while the company before the court did not. They claimed a misunderstanding of the regulations caused the offence.
The magistrates fined the company £500 with £200 costs.
