• Allegations that LGV learners were allowed to drive unsupervised at the South Minims operation of LGV driving school Roadtrain have been strongly denied by the company.

Roadtrain says it will investigate the complaints, but this week it is merging South Mimms into its head office operation at Truck World, Essex to "make adminis tration more manageable". Managing director Nick Smith says one of the three instructors at South Mimms is leaving the company A Government-sponsored adult retraining centre is understood to be asking for a refund from the company after sponsoring two drivers for LGV training at Road Train's South Mimms operation.

Stevenage-based Ridgernond Training, which administers Government-backed training schemes, declines to comment.

Roadtrain says its records show one of the drivers, Peter Wright, had 32 hours training. The other two had 44 hours.

Two of the drivers say they were left alone and unsupervised to practise reversing during their second lesson.

Roadtrain denies all the allegations.
