• West Midlands police plan to increase checks on trucks carrying hazardous loads, after their first inspection with Health & Safety inspectors last Friday discovered 18 alleged offences among 27 trucks.
Six of the drivers waved down on the M5 and M6 around Birmingham were served with immediate prohibitions: three for driving trucks with mechanical defects and another three for breaching the health and safety regulations Eight were cautioned for document and tachograph offences and four were advised of minor infringements of the health and safety regulations.
