Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DETA1LS of taxation receipts, licences, current and new registrations, the first two for the year to November 30; 1954, and the last for the quarter ended December 31, 1954, are contained in Return No. 168,

• Mechanically Propelled Road Vehicles, issued by the Ministry of Transport and obtainable from H.M. Stationery Office at 4s.

• The particulars are compiled from information supplied by the 185 Registration and Licensing Authorities in Great Britain, who administer the Vehicles (Excise) Act, 1949.

Vehicles belonging to the Forces of the Crown are no longer registered or licensed under the Act and are therefore not included. This also applies to those operating under O.H.M.S. Certificates.

The total taxation receipts were £75,329,000, of which driving licences and miscellaneous receipts accounted for £2,469,000.

£2,000 from Trains Motor cycles and pedestrian-controlled vehicles brought in 12,552,000; hackneys £5,764,000, of which those with not over eight seats achieved £353,000, and tramcars £2,000.

Tractors produced /854,000. but of these the general-haulage models gave 1147,000.

The total for goods vehicles was £25,855,000. Also contributing to this were farmers' vehicles £583,000; showmen's 43,000, local authorities' appliances (watering, etc.) 172,000 and battery-electric vehicles (excluding any owned by farmers and local authorities) £305,000.

Cars gave a total of £37,321,000, whilst trade licences accounted for 1514,000, the general type providing £380,000 and the limited £134,000.

a4 The total vehicle licences were 5,682,100, of which hackneys accounted for 101,300; those over eight scats for 71,300, under eight seats 27,400 and tramcars 2,600.

Tractor licences totalled 352,200, those for general haulage numbering only 4,100.

Goods vehicle licences totalled 1,010,200. Those for battery-electrics numbering 19,700; for farmers' vehicles 43,000 and municipal authorities 2,100.

Licences for cars numbered 3,059,200 and for vehicles exempt from tax, 45,100. Trade licences were as follows: General 16,200, limited 27,300.

It should be noted that the numbers for the vehicle licences are approximate.
