MR. DAVID G. THAXTER has won first prize in the fourth competition, concerning general arrangement drawings for a metal-bodied single-deck bus' incorporating an underfloor-engined chassis, in the series of competitions organized by the Institute of British Carriage and Automobile Manufacfacturers. The second prize was won by MR. CHARLES P. STEPHENSON. Both have been awarded the medal of the Worshipful Company of Coach Makers and Coach Harness Makers, MR. WALTER E. Hui. has, for health reasons, tendered his resignation as managing director of Vauxhall Motors, Ltd., and as a member of the board as from July 1. MR. PHILTP W. COPELIN has been elected to the board and will succeed Mr. Hill as managing director, Mr. Copelin has been a member of General Motors Overseas Operations since 1933. He comes to Vauxhall Motors from General Motors Continental, S.A., Belgium, of which be is managing director. Mr. Hill has been in the motor industry for nearly all his 42 years of business life. He joined General Motors in 1922. In 1925 he went to New Zealand to build a new assembly plant, later becoming managing director there. He subsequently became in charge of the plant at Adelaide, Australia. After 18 months in the U.S.A.. he returned to Australia and New Zealand. In 1945 he managed the Detroit office of General Motors Overseas Operations, coming to England, his native country, in 1949.

R.E.M.E. CHIEFS AT PERKINS SENIOR officers of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers visited the school of F. Perkins, Ltd., Peterborough, last week. The head of R.E.M.E., Maj.-Gen. W. A. Lord, Director of Mechanical Engineering, War Office, was included in the party.

About 4,000 students are expected to pass through the school this year, 40 per cent, of them from overseas.
