Driving along the Chelmsford-Colchester main road in a motor omnibus, the Mayor of Colchester, Mr. George F. Wright, with wireless telephony receivers to his ears, one day last week listened to gramophone records played at the Marconi Station at Broomfield, 10 mileS away.
The omnibus party also overheard Mr. Godfrey Isaacs, managing director of the Marconi Co., speaking from his London office to Broomfield, a distance of 50
The omnibus had rubber tyres, and there was no trailing wire or metallic connection with the ground. The " aerial " which received the messages was coiled around a small wooden frame on the side of the vehicle. The test was part of a demonstration by the Marconi Co.
