IN A murder investigation is under way after a truck driver was found burned to death in his cab in Lincolnshire.
The incident happened at around midnight last Thursday (26 June). Emergency services were attending a truck fire at Sainsbury's Homebase in Grimsby, when they discovered the body of Derek Bailey of Bideford, Devon.
The father-of-four is believed to have delivered ornaments to the store. He was sleeping overnight in his vehicle before mak
ing his return journey when he was killed.
Initial findings suggest that the fire may have started outside the vehicle and then spread to the cab and trailer.
Humberside police says there have been 12 arson attacks in the Grimsby area since 1 June, including one at Homebase just five days before this incident.
Detective superintendent Rickard Kerman who is leading the investigation says: "Did you see anyone hanging around close to the Homebase store? Do you have any information about who might be the responsible for the truck fire?
"Do you have any information about any other fire in the area in recent weeks? Anyone with information should contact us immediately."
Police are also keen to trace the owner of a dark-coloured old-style Vauxhall Cavalier seen parked outside the store at the time of the fire.
