• From 1 August light vans which are fitted with catalytic convertors will have to pass the emissions test as part of their annual MoT tests.
The new regulations apply to vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes registered after 1 August 1994.
A spokesman for the Department of Transport advises operators to check that their local MoT testing station has the necessary equipment to perform the catalyst test.
