II The Welsh Office has finally given the green light to an eastern bypass in Carmarthen after a 25-year campaign by local residents.
The long-awaited scheme, costing £26.3 million, will start on 7 July. It is expected to take about 28 months to complete.

ter Peter Hain says that the bypass is urgently needed to improve safety and deal with "unsatisfactory traffic conditions" in the region.
Labour MP Nick Ainger says the news demonstrates the Government's commitment to improving the infrastructure of West Wales.
