Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Vehicle Inspectorate has streamlined the notifiable alterations procedure by removing the need for trucks to be taken out of service.

Vehicles no longer have to be inspected for changes to the plate and plating certificate such as: • A change of tyre capacity; • Legal weight limit changes within the design capacity of the vehicle; • A change in registration mark (cherished number plates); • Any change by the manufac turer, usually before the vehicle enters service; • Third-axle conversions carried out by approved convertors nominated by manufacturers; • Other alterations which do not affect the plated particulars, for instance, most wheelbase extensions.

Inspections will still be required for major changes, such as converting a flatbed into a box van. In addition, all main test stations can now deal directly with applications either by person or by post.
