MORE A.E.C.s FOR SOUTH AFRICA: A.E.C. Ltd. has received orders from South Africa for 189 goods and passenger chassis, bringing the total value of orders received from the Republic in the first six months of 1964 to £3m. The latest contract calls for 52 Marshal 6 x 4 medium-weight chassis and 60 Mandators, together with 10 Mammoth Major eight-wheelers, 22 Monarch fourwheelers and 10 Super Mammoth chassis. The Super Mammoth is a prime mover specially developed for South Africa, powered by the A.E.C. AVI100 diesel engine, developing 113 b.h.p., and is capable of hauling a maximum gross train weight of 112 tons. Some 17 Regal Mk. VI underfloorengined bus chassis and'18 Ranger heavyduty bus chassis complete the contracts.

MORE SEMI-TRAILERS FOR B.R.S.: British Road Services Ltd. has ordered 36 Scammell 10-ton, 23-ft. semi-trailers to be equipped with Scammell M.H.-tVpe couplings.

AUSTRALIA ORDERS A.E.C.: Another 30 A.E.C. Mandator goods chassis are to be supplied to inter-State hauliers in Australia, who have recently taken delivery of 50 Mandators. The latest contracts, placed through A.E.C. Australia (Pty.) Ltd., also call for 10 Marshal medium-weight six-wheelers, for service in Eastern Australia. Flower Davies and Johnson Ltd.. A.E.C. distributor of Perth, Western Australia, has also ordered five Marshal six-wheelers.

ATLANTEANS FOR LTD.: Leyland Motors Ltd. has confirmed an order from the London Transport Board for 50 Arlardean double-deck bus chassis (see page 34). They will be fitted with fully automatic Pneumocyclic gearboxes with two-pedal control, incorporating a C.A.V. speed-sensitive generator and a Self-Changing Gears' control panel of the type at present used by London Transport. The new buses will be fitted with 72-seat bodies by Park Royal Vehicles Ltd.

DEMPSTER ORDERS TOP £100,000: Orders for Dempster containerized handling equipment worth more than £100,000 were placed with Powell Duffryn Engineering Co. Ltd. during May. The orders were placed throughout the Dempster range of Dunmster, Dumpmaster and Dinosaur systems.

MERRIW ORT H TRAILERS FOR SEXTON: W. H. Sexton Jar. Ltd., longdistance and local haulage contractor, has taken delivery of six Merriworth Auto-fifth 12-ton semi-trailers, four of which were fitted with slipper-type suspension. • ROUTEMANS FOR BULK OIL: Gulf Oil has ordered seven Scammell Routeman 11 rigid eight-wheelers with Leyland Power Plus 0.680 diesel engines. They will be fitted with tank bodies for bulk fuel oil haulage. IN BRIEF

B.M.C. in France: Extensions of the sales and service networks for B.M.C. vehicles in France have been announced. In northeast France a new distributor organization has been established and will include Austin and Morris light commercial vehicles in its franchise. The new company, Nord-Est Motors, will be set up in Roubaix; it has been established by Soc. Richard S.A. The latter company, together with Soc. Afiva, is also co-operating in a new enterprise covering 29 departments in the south-west of France with the object of boosting B.M.C. light vehicle sales. A new company, Stewart and Ardern Soc. Anon., has been formed in France with headquarters at Bordeaux. This follows an agreement between B.M.C. and the Stewart and Ardem parent company. Leyland Holidays : The offices and works of Leyland Motors Ltd., at Leyland, Farington, Charley and Spurrier works will be closed from 4.35 p.m. on Friday, July 17, until the morning of Monday, August 3. Neither correspondence nor receipt or dispatch of stores will be dealt with during this time but emergency service facilities have been arranged.

Edbro Gear on new Tipper : The Edbro 1LN single-ram hydraulic gear is fitted as standard on the new B.M.C, WF series K100 5-ton tipper announced today (see page 61).
