PTHE Minister of Transport is asking I Parliament to perpetuate the exemption from record-keeping for C-licensed vehicles up to 16 cwt. unladen when used within five miles of their base. The concession was originally introduced for an experimental period of two years and, in the absence of any evidence of abuse, the Minister now wishes to continue it. But he feels that to raise the weight or distance limits might be to risk some abuse of the concession, so the vehicles covered will remain unchanged—if Parliament approves.
On Wednesday he laid the Order before Parliament; entitled the Goods Vehicles (Keep;ng of Records) Order, 1964, it is obtainable from H.M.S.O., price
