A PLEA for more time to enable the 1-1, fish industry to reorganize its distribution system has been made to Dr. Beeching, chairman of British Railways. And it has been made clear to him that the trade might go over entirely to the roads.
The annual report of the White Fish Authority, released on Tuesday. records that during the year ended March 31 last. the railways, published proposals to reorganize their fish distribution Service,:.
The proposals are that the numbers of fish trains shall be sharply curtailed. lnd at the same time he dispatched fully loaded. They will run to only a limited number of railheads, whence road distribution most be organized.by the industry itself. The Authority stresses that Britain will nevertheless still need an efficient lish distribution system and states: " More time than is presently envisaged by British Railways will be required to enable such a system to be evolved—whether by making use of the less frequent Services now offered by the railways, or by road."
