Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

1 n some ways, this section of the Truck and Van Buyers' Guide 2008 is a pointless exercise —most operators who have recently ordered new tractors will be able to read the 2009 edition before their trucks arrive in the yard. Lead times haven taken over from Euro-4 and digitachs as the big issue, although there remains an underlying suspicion that a good few of the orders in the book are speculative and might dissolve in the future.

The shortage is as much to do with capacity in the component industry as in truck assembly. Even if manufacturers speed up their lines, they can build trucks only as fast as the narrowest bottleneck in the supply chain.

As we mentioned in the Distribution section, 2007 wasn't a classic year for truck launches. Iveco kicked off with the revamped Stralis, complete with the high-profile All Blacks marketing campaign. The only other major launch was the MAN TGA replacement duo, the TGS and TGX. Daf saw out the year with some detail changes on the CF, and Scania fettled its cab interiors while introducing the new, intermediate G-Series cab. Hino now has a tractor in its line-up, but so far, volumes are way too small to make any judgement.
