• The Bristol Omnibus Company has ensured that there will be a common understanding among all its staff on the revised drivers' hours provisions under the 1968 Transport Act. A joint meeting has been held and attended by both management and union representatives from all levels down to the smallest unit in the Bristol Group.
The relevant sections of the Act were explained in detail by Mr. Ronald Mellor, a senior traffic examiner from the Mors Western area, after which Mr. Alan Thomson from the TGWU headquaiters gave his views on the implications of the new provisions as far as his members were concerned.
• Get more commuters on the buses or destroy the centre of Norwich: that was the message from Mr. Alfred Wood, the city planning officer, speaking about the city's bus services last week.
He warned that, unless half of the commuters used public transport, vehicle congestion would destroy the city Centre. It was essential, he said, to sort out the buses from the cars so that each could have "a proper crack of the whip."
