A THORNYCROFT Nubian 6 x 6 PI multi-purpose air-crash tender has been supplied to Basra Airport to the order of the Crown Agents for Oversea Governments and Administrations. It is fitted with a Fire Armour crew cab and bodywork providing accommodation for the driver and first officer in the front, with a crew of four behind.

High-pressure jet or fog water/foam supplies have been catered for, as well as a low-pressure pumping unit for domestic water. Foam can be discharged at the rate of 5,000 g.p.m. either through the roof monitor and three foam-making branch pipes or through four foam-making branch pipes from the pump delivery outlets.

There is a 700-gal. water tank, and a separate tank for 60 gal. of foam compound. The carbon-dioxide installation consists of six 50-lb, cylinders, three on each side of the vehicle.

DRIVERS GET NEW BENEFITS

MEMBERS of the Bedford Drivers' Club are to receive greater insurance cover and benefits under new schemes introduced on Wednesday. Life-insurance benefits are now related to a driver's period of membership. Starting at £150, cover goes up by an extra £10 for each year's membership since 1953 to a maximum of 1300 after 15 years.

Additional new benefits include a cash payment of £150 by the club if a member loses a limb br his sight, and special insurance rates for members' private cars and motorcycles.The club at present has a membership of 67,000.
