BEFORE the adjournment of Parliament for the Christmas recess Mr. David Adams asked the Secretary of Mines two questions:—Whether all possible steps were • being taken to encourage the use of alternative motor fuels made from British coal; and whether representations upon this subject, made by local authorities who had carried out experiments, were now receiving rapid and sympathetic attention?
Mr. D. Grenfeli referred Mr. Adams to the reply he had given Mr. Craven. Ellison November 20, and added that representations made by local authorities, in this connection, had been duly
considered. As to the rationing of coal-tar-oil motor fuels, on which certain representations had been received, he referred the Member to the Secretary for Petroleum.
Mr. Adams expressed regret that nothing more tangible than this emaciated reply could be given on the subject.
Mr. G. Lloyd, who was then asked by Mr. Adams to give a further statement, said a scheme had been drawn up to encourage the use of. tar oils .as motor fuel in goods and public service vehicles and at the same time to effect economy in the use of imported fuel. The scheme would come into force on January 24, and would be subject to review at the end of six months.
