Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AREVUSAL to grant authority to a Lancashire coach operator for ass, extended tour, because it went direct to Torquay and embraced trips from that centre,. indicates a change of policy on the part of the .NorthWestern Traffic Commissioners.

Messrs. G. Barlow and Sons, of Oldham, who already run to Devon and Cornwall an eight-day tour of the type which " takes in " a different hotel each night, asked permission to run a seven-day trip to Torquay, with the hotel charges and the cost of local excursions included in the price.

Mr. G. H. P. Beames (for the railways) urged that there was not a travel feature in this proposal that existed in the ordinary extended tour, and that it provided a new means for reaching Torquay, which would compete with services offering facilities between these two points throughout the year.

The chairman, Mr. W. Chamberlain, in stating the decision not to grant the application, emphasized the fact that the local trips deprived seaside opera tors of the custom of visitors.

Vessrs. J. Gregson and Sons, of Bury, were informed at the same sitting that their proposal to run Such a' trip to Folkestone would be allowed only if tWo days were spent en route.

FARES ANOMALY REMAINS.

THE Northern Traffic Commissioners have rejected an application by various bus companies operating from Newcastle to Whitley Bay for an extension of the cheap evening fares to include all parts of Tynemouth and Whitley Bay. It was pointed out that anyone boarding .a bus at Tynemouth for Newcastle 'paid 9d., but the charge from North Shields was 11d., although it was in theTynemouth area and nearer to Newcastle.

The London and North Eastern Railway Co. objected, and the Commissioners refused the application.

LANCASTER WANTS STATION.
