Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Common Rail

On 20 January I bought a second-hand P-reg MAN 22.403 tractive unit from Euro Wise Truck of Aylesham, Kent which was advertised in Commercial Motor.

A week later, in the course of preparing the vehicle for its road debut on 1February, our local main dealer, MAN Eastern, gave the vehicle a full service and inspection. They discovered that the number one injector, which is electronically finked and controls the fuel management system, was faulty and required replacement at a cost of 1A50 plus fitting.

I phoned Peter Hassan, director of Euro Wise Truck, and told him of the problem.

Within half an hour he was back on the phone having authorised the repair at his own expense, saying he would rather have a satisfied customer, albeit 150 miles away, than a dissatisfied one.

I told Peter I was impressed and would tell my friends: I hope through your letters page you will allow me to do so.

Graham Brand.

• CM is always happy to pass on pats on the back for this sort of service. As Peter Hassan doubtless knows, in the long run, going the extra mile for customers makes good business sense too—Ed.
