Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

,Ve driven trucks for more years than I'd want to admit but my son has bought himsi used van and he is making m in a week than lam. For a st he isn't ruled by a tacho.

Is it any wonder that there's such a terrible shortage of experienced heavy goods drivers when ■ can make more driving a va than a 38-tonner?

Driving a heavy wagon h; never been a soft job but at least it used to be a long-ter prospect with the chance tc make a decent wage. Now tl demands made on drivers a rising as wages fall. To be fa my wage isn't too bad, but seen adverts offering only 1 an hour for an HGV1.

My advice to a beginner would be to forget it. Be a "white van man" instead. J Trescothick Bode, Cornwall.
