the normally aspirated unit was, well, wheezy. For a while it looked as if gentle criticism might have swayed Ford into giving buyers more engine choices. But no. It seems the company enjoys going back to its Henry Ford roots, so you can have any engine you want with the Super Cab, as long as it's the 2.5-litre unblown DuraTorq.

We'll have the Ranger for another eight months, in which time we aim to update you on how it fares as the miles tick by.

Other than the updates, we will be having the pickup fitted with a tyre pressure monitoring system and a tracking system for in-service evaluations.
